New York 2014: Day 3

Our 3rd day in the city was one of the 5 days that I was looking forward to the most not only because of the itinerary, but also because Kazu and Kayo arrived in New York City, too! Originally, it was just Fumika and I who planned to go on this trip, but I let them know about it as well, and they ended up deciding to come join us. It's been more than half a year since I last saw the two of them, so you can only imagine how excited I was to see them again!

Kazu asked me to coordinate outfits for her to wear during our stay in New York City, so we did some early shopping in Times Square.

It's always a laugh trip when with Kazu!

Wanted something quick to eat so we had brunch here.

And how can we possibly start our day without our Starbucks fix?

Did a lot of catching up with Kazu!

Our walk to Empire State Building turned into a photoshoot.

Empire State Building!

But first, let me take a selfie.

Going all the way up to the observatory.

Of course, what's the Empire State Building without the infamous King Kong?

Since I was in charge of the itinerary, I had to choose between the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center's Top of the Rock, or the Chrysler Building's Observation Deck to see the panorama of New York City. The decision-making was difficult, but I ended up choosing the Empire State Building.

Chrysler Building. It looks like a scene from Gossip Girl's opening when the camera pans over the skyline of Manhattan.

Flatiron District from afar.

 Brooklyn Bridge.

We obviously love New York City.

After we left the Empire State, we stopped by a souvenir shop located just right in front of the building. We avoided going to the one inside the building because the prices of their New York merchandise were insanely high.

They sold the exact same keychains in the Empire State Store for twice the price.

At this point, we were waiting for Kayo to arrive in New York City from Rhode Island. We waited outside her hotel...

...which is the New York Palace, the hotel where Serena from Gossip Girl lives.

Obviously, it's a place meant for well-off and elite people. Being the broke college student that I am, I felt really out of place here.

Everyone jumped onto the bed as soon as we entered the room. So thankful to Kayo for inviting us to sleep over at her place for the night! I got to experience a glimpse of the Gossip Girl life!

Off to eat dinner. If you look closely, the Empire State Building is lit up in American colors: blue and red. Not really sure why.

Passed by Rockefeller Center!

Radio City Music Hall! I've seen this a lot in TV shows and movies.

On 50th Street and Lexington Avenue is a ramen place where Ikuma used to work at.

 Hinata!

Karaage and edamame.

Kayo and I ordered the Hinata Paitan Ramen, while Kazu got the Kara Ramen. Fumika ordered the Nikumiso Ramen.

Group photo! To think that it's been over a year since we graduated and went our separate ways, it's amazing how it still feels like home with these people.

Third day in the Big Apple was a success! Got to visit a lot of tourist spots and was reunited with two of my closest friends from high school! Can't wait to spend Day 4 in NYC with them!
